SUMMARY:TreeMail Volunteer Night
DESCRIPTION:No dirt\, no sweat—just stamps\, snacks\, and helping trees grow! \nJoin TreeFolks on Tuesday\, August 19th\, from 6–8 PM for an indoor\, hands-on volunteer event where you can help kick off the next season of the Central Texas Floodplain Reforestation Program in the comfort of air conditioning. We’ll be assembling outreach mailers for landowners across Central Texas—folding\, stamping\, highlighting\, and adding a few handwritten touches that make a big difference in getting folks to sign up. \nIt’s simple\, social\, and surprisingly impactful—every envelope you prep brings us one step closer to planting thousands of native trees along our region’s creeks and rivers. We’ll have snacks\, good tunes\, and all the supplies ready. Just bring your helping hands and your best penmanship! You can RSVP here. \nIf you have any questions or concerns\, please contact Marina: marina@treefolks.org

SUMMARY:Welcome to the NeighborWoods: Tree Adoptions\, How to Get Involved\, and All About Fruit Trees
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, September 20\, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM for a free\, in-person training. \nNeighborWoods is giving away over 8\,000 trees to the public this season\, and we need YOU to help these trees grow and thrive! Learn everything you need to know to fill an educational role at a NeighborWoods tree adoption event and boost your fruit tree knowledge at the same time. The first part of this training will focus on tree selection\, planting location\, planting techniques\, and care. Then we will learn more about the fruit trees that NeighborWoods will be offering for adoption this season – pruning\, pests\, grafting – a little of everything. Afterwards\, you can visit the TreeFolks Native Trees Nursery and see what we have been growing! \nThe NeighborWoods program is a partnership with the City of Austin and Austin Energy. \nThis training is free and open to anyone\, but you must register to attend. If you have any questions or concerns\, please get in touch with Gillian: volunteer@treefolks.org\, (512) 761-8738 cell

SUMMARY:Groasis Splash!
DESCRIPTION:Come cool off with us at Groasis Splash! With your help\, we’ll wash and prep our Groasis Waterboxxes for the new planting season. These innovative planting devices capture rain and condensation\, then slowly release it to young trees—helping them survive the Central Texas heat while using very little water. \nBy giving them a good clean\, you’ll be making sure they’re ready to keep supporting the Central Texas Floodplain Reforestation Program and the next generation of trees. \nExpect a fun few hours of suds\, splashes\, and good vibes—we’ll have snacks to keep you fueled and tunes to keep the energy high. Think of it as one last chance to soak up Austin’s “bonus summer” before the cooler weather rolls in. \nBe sure to wear clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting wet and/or a little dirty. \nYou can sign up for the morning session (9am to noon) or the afternoon session (1pm to 4pm).

DESCRIPTION:Join the District 10 team and Friends of Great Hills Park on December 6! We’ll be spending another morning at the park to remove remaining “dead and down” brush and reduce fire risk. \nIn May\, I pitched in with an amazing group of neighborhood volunteers to cut and haul out almost 3\,000 pounds of brush inside the park\, but wildfire is an ever-present threat and there’s more to be done. Workdays like these keep the area and its residents safe and help save taxpayer funds. Hope to see you there! \nYou can RSVP to volunteer here.

SUMMARY:Postponed: Onion Creek Metro Park Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:*POSTPONED* Community Creek Cleanup \nDue to predicted freezing temperatures on Saturday\, we’ve decided to postpone this Community Creek Cleanup.  \nKeep an eye out for the future cleanup date! \n———————————— \nJoin CRA for quarterly creek cleanups in Onion Creek Metropolitan Park! We need volunteers of all ages to help remove trash from in and around Onion Creek—an area with significant impact on the Texas Colorado River and our drinking water. \nReserve your spot now to help keep our local freshwater sources healthy and clean for generations to come! \nWhat to Bring: We will provide the tools needed to complete the cleanup\, such as grabbers and trash bags. Please bring a full water bottle\, sun protection\, and any snacks you may like to have on hand. \nWhat to wear: Weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toed shoes are recommended. Long pants\, long socks\, and long-sleeve shirts can protect against poison ivy\, bug bites\, and other common irritants. There are several burs in Onion Creek so we do not recommend wearing pants that have intentional holes\, fringe\, or are made from a soft material such as jogging pants and leggings.
