Executed in the midst of a global pandemic\, an economic recession\, and the historic Black Lives Matter movement\, the ECEJ initiative was a leap towards a stronger and more equitable local workforce\, in a sector that is nationally over 70% white and male.  \nAs summer internships come to a close\, we’re excited to celebrate the six amazing interns and five clean energy companies who made this pilot program possible! Join us as we reflect with program participants on what was accomplished during this pilot phase\, what challenges were faced\, and what still needs to be done to lower the barrier of entry for passionate individuals who seek to make a difference in this field and in their communities.

DESCRIPTION:Juneteenth 2021: Stay Black and Live Vol. 2 is a city wide Juneteenth festival presented by Six Square\, CarverMuseumATX\, and the Black Austin Coalition\, in partnership with Jump On It\, the Austin Area Urban League\, Austin Justice Coalition\, and GEAYA.\n\n \nA year after we transformed the Juneteenth festivities from a parade and block party to a virtual festival\, this year’s theme reflects on Black people’s initiative and willpower to free themselves because no one else will do it for us\, and how it is through our collective strength that we have made our mark wherever we go.\n\n \nThe day long celebration kicks off with a car parade hosted by the Austin Area Urban League and GEAYA. During lunchtime\, the 10\,000 Fearless First Responders and will be distributing free plates to the communities most in need on the East side.\n \nSix Square and CarverMuseumATX’s virtual program will start with a panel discussion about the history and celebration of Juneteenth with speakers Dr. Lisa B. Thompson and Dr. Charles Daniel Carson of UT Austin’s African and African Studies department and moderated by Carre Adams\, manager of the Carver Museum.\n\n \nOur MC NOOK will introduce Freedom Desk\, a music and spoken word performance series that will feature artists from the Austin/Travis County area. The lineup includes: Riders Against the Storm\, Eimaral Sol\, Melat\, Chakeeta B\, and more!\n\n \nWe’ll also have a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses. Proceeds will benefit Six Square as they continue to tirelessly serve the African-American community in Austin.\n\n \nDuring the evening we’ll keep the party going at Rosewood Park with a live afterparty hosted by Jump On It and GEAYA. The night will end with a fireworks show by Austin Justice Coalition.

DESCRIPTION:** Please note – Due to increasing COVID risks\, this event has been postponed. A new date will be released shortly. **\n\nOn Friday\, July 30th from 7 – 11pm we will be kicking off our GardenVoices initiative and hosting a special gathering in support of healthy local food growers\, strengthening communities\, and fostering stewardship of our natural commons.\n  \nThe event will take place on the lovely outdoor patio at Ani’s Day & Night (7107 E Riverside Dr\, Austin\, TX). There is plentiful free parking on site at Ani’s.\n  \nThere will be live music by the Ben Balmer Trio and Much 2 Much on the outdoor patio\, and with your ticket you will have access to our special bar serving beer and wine. There will also be a custom cocktail for sale\, made by Ani’s mixologist using fresh herbs from the Festival Beach Food Forest. Delicious treats will be available for purchase from talented food truck artisans.\n  \nWe will be exhibiting images from gardens all over Austin which we are connecting to form a ‘fruitful commons’ – with shared resources and creative solutions for fresh food access for all.\n  \nTickets are offered on a sliding scale from $30-$70. If you cannot attend the event but still wish to support us\, you can do so here.\n  \nGet your tickets today\, and save the date on your calendar. \n  \nAbout GardenVoices: \nOver eighty gardens and community agriculture projects will share photos\, voices and important ideas to deepen and strengthen their long-term sustainability and build a network of resources. The result of this co-created effort will result in greater food security\, stronger communities\, replenished soils and an expanded urban forest canopy in Austin.\n  \nAbout Fruitful Commons: \nWe are a registered 501c3 nonprofit serving communities throughout the Austin region by supporting individuals\, neighborhoods and organizations who are spearheading collaborative\, equitable\, and regenerative community agriculture projects that benefit neighborhoods and the greater whole.
