DESCRIPTION:This May\, some of Austin’s favorite Latina acts will deliver on talent and culture for a free Latinapalooza show on Sunday\, May 26 from 12 noon to 5 p.m. at the Lampkin Pavilion in Rosewood Park\, 1182 North Pleasant Valley Rd.\, behind the ballfields and adjacent to New York Ave. The show will feature emerging and long-time performances by Bidi Bidi Banda\, Llamativa\, Mariachi Las Coronelas\, The Tiarras and Patricia Vonne.\n\n \n12 Noon – Bidi Bidi Banda: Selena tribute band fronted by Stephanie Bergara and her Tejano musicians.\n1 p.m. – Llamativa:  An 8 piece all female Chicanx band from San Antonio that pushes the boundaries of Latin genre with Cumbia\, Salsa\, Bolero\, Chacha and Tejano influences.\n2 p.m. – Mariachi Las Coronelas: a modern all-female mariachi ensemble\, famously known for traditional mariachi boleros\, rancheras\, original music and their high energy performances.\n3 p.m. – The Tiarras: Three powerhouse Tejana sisters\, represent the next generation of Latina music. Their mission-driven eclectic sound and anthemic lyrics celebrate unity\, empowerment\, inclusion and a love of community.\n4 p.m. – Patricia Vonne: A Tex –Mex spitfire with a rock n roll heart who plays a border crossing\, bilingual mix of flamenco and Mexican influences with all American rock n roll.\n \nLatinapalooza is Austin’s premiere Latina/Hispanic music showcase that connects culture and community. This community show is a collaboration between the artists sponsored by City of Austin Cultural Arts Division and Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center.\n \n\nAlmost unconsciously\, Austin’s Eastside is this city’s heart center. Even with updated facades and a new crop of residents\, its cultural origin magnetizes new arrivals and tourists and is still home to so many who defined its history. Celebrating that history and energy are some of Austin’s most talented and beloved Latina musicians at this free\, family-friendly\, outdoor event.\n \n\nLatinapalooza was founded by singer/songwriter\, actress and entrepreneur Patricia Vonne\, and it has been an official SXSW showcase for the past three years. In addition to being part of SXSW\, this event is now a free showcase offered in May celebrating Latin music and culture with an all female Latina lineup performing everything from mariachi\, pop\, Tejano to flamenco roots rock.\n \n\n“There’s a sisterhood of musicians in Austin that have put the city on an international map\, but also spotlights Austin’s specific cultural heritage. DESCRIPTION:This Fall\, the Downtown Austin Alliance Foundation is bringing an exciting new outdoor movie experience to Republic Square. We are teaming up with the creators of Shaolin Jazz to present the first-ever CAN I KICK IT? Downtown Austin movie series; iconic films scored LIVE with a new soundtrack!\n\n \nCAN I KICK IT? is a film experience catered to the lovers of cult classic action films and Kung-Fu flicks\, the music they inspired and everything else in between. At each event films are scored live (scene-by-scene) with a blend of Hip Hop\, Soul\, Rock and more mixed by DJ 2-Tone Jones. To date over 150 different film titles have been screened at CIKI? events featured across the map including at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts\, SXSW\, Smithsonian National Gallery of Art\, New York Asian Film Festival\, Oakland Museum of California\, PAX East Video Game Convention and more.\n\n \nThe series line-up is as follows:* Black Panther (PG-13) | Sept 27\, Ft. Special Guest\, local DJ Kay Cali* Ghostbusters (PG) | Oct 25* The Last Dragon (PG-13) | Nov 22\n\n \nThe events are free for all ages and open to the public. Each night the festivities will kick off at 7pm with an opening DJ set\, followed by the film shortly after 8pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks and other amenities will be on-site.
