SUMMARY:East Riverside Open House
DESCRIPTION:The City of Austin is calling on residents to come help shape the future of the East Riverside corridor. This week\, Austin will host an in-person East Riverside Open House where attendees can learn more about and weigh in on initiatives aimed at transforming housing\, mobility\, and public spaces along the vital corridor. Feedback collected during the event will help guide future investments\, and everyone who lives\, works\, or travels through the area is invited to attend. \nEvent Details:\nDate: Aug. 29\, 2026\nTime: 10 a.m.–1 p.m.\nLocation: 2400 Grove Blvd.\, Training Center\nParticipating Partners: City of Austin\, Austin Transit Partnership\, CapMetro\nRSVP: Community Open House \nA Community Conversation about the Future \n“I’m proud of all the work City Planning staff have put into the updates to the East Riverside Planning Initiative so far. This event will give our community the opportunity to learn more about it\, share their perspectives\, and influence what the final version looks like\,” said District 3 Council Member José Velásquez. “I am especially grateful for the work with partners like the Grove-Riverside team\, CapMetro\, Austin Transit Partnership\, and local school districts.” The City’s goal for the event is to continue the conversation with residents about what they value in their neighborhoods and what their local government can do to support their housing\, transportation\, and community needs. \nAt the East Riverside Open House\, community members will have opportunities to: \n\nLearn about efforts happening along East Riverside Drive and in nearby neighborhoods\, including the East Riverside Corridor Planning Initiative and the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan Update.\nLearn about the Grove-Riverside Site\, a 125-acre site that includes 2400 Grove Boulevard\, the former Tokyo Electron Campus that is now City offices. Future plans for the site will include mixed-use development reflecting local needs\, such as mixed-income housing\, commercial development\, community uses\, and parks.\nUnderstand upcoming transit improvements\, including the future Austin Light Rail\, services included in CapMetro’s Transit Plan 2035\, and new pedestrian and bike paths.\nProvide feedback to City of Austin staff to ensure community voices help guide the corridor’s future and the Grove-Riverside Site vision.\n\nCommunity input is critical. Together\, we can ensure that these projects create safe\, mixed-income housing\, vibrant community spaces\, and sustainable opportunities for those who have built their lives and families in the East Riverside communities. \nAbout the East Riverside Corridor Planning Initiative \nThe City is partnering with the community to update the existing East Riverside Corridor Vision Plan and Regulating Plan\, in alignment with the Equitable Transit-Oriented Development (ETOD) initiative. The purpose of the plan is to guide the growth and redevelopment of East Riverside and to ensure that future changes benefit everyone who lives\, works\, and plays along the corridor. \nAbout the Grove-Riverside Site  \nLed by the City of Austin\, the Grove Riverside Site is nearly 125 acres that includes three City‑owned land parcels at East Riverside Drive and Grove Boulevard\, next to the future Austin Light Rail and planned Grove Station. The City is working with the community to understand local priorities and identify the benefits people want to see. This input will help shape how the site supports current residents and meets the needs of the community as the area grows. The effort to develop the site is still in the planning phase—no development partner has been selected\, and no construction has begun—and public input will shape what’s possible.
