SUMMARY:Central City District Plan Open House
DESCRIPTION:The City Council resolution for the Downtown Austin Plan update called for a new 10-year blueprint that provides a renewed vision for Downtown. We’re expanding that vision to include adjacent areas with similar character and context: \n• The South Central Waterfront\n• Downtown\n• The University of Texas/University Neighborhood Overlay areas \nThe Central City District Plan is more than just a plan: It serves as a vital connector for existing plans\, projects\, and initiatives. It bridges comprehensive planning\, Citywide initiatives\, Downtown initiatives\, and the transformative work happening under Project Connect and Equitable Transit-Oriented Development. \nWe’re inviting community members and stakeholders to help shape the future of three of Austin’s most iconic areas. Together\, we’ll build a shared vision that reflects our values and aspirations. You can RSVP for the in-person open house here. \nTo ensure a more equitable\, sustainable\, and resilient future in Austin\, we must rethink how we plan for growth in the city’s urban core. Around the world\, downtowns are thriving not just through work and play\, but by embracing livability\, inclusivity\, and access to services.

SUMMARY:Housing Affordability Fair
DESCRIPTION:Join us to connect with housing resources provided by the City of Austin and weigh in on updates to programs that support housing affordability throughout the city. Food\, kids’ activities\, and Spanish interpreters will be provided. Additional accommodations can be requested at registration. Registration is encouraged but not required. \n  \nMore Info: \nThe City of Austin is hosting a one-stop shop where residents can connect with existing housing resources and also weigh in on updates to programs that support housing affordability throughout the city. \nThe Housing Affordability Fair will spotlight the City’s expansive set of programs designed to support Austinites through the challenges of increasing housing costs and maintaining financial stability. Attendees will be able to engage with Austin Housing staff and dozens of program partners about offerings ranging from home repair to rental assistance. Other initiatives designed to move the City forward in meeting our affordability goals include new projects like the Missing Middle and Mixed-Use Zoning Study\, and updates to the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan\, the SMART Housing program\, the Austin Strategic Housing Blueprint\, City code that sets requirements when certain housing is redeveloped (known as Chapter 4-18)\, and other tools the City is exploring. \nAdditionally\, Austin Planning will provide information and take community feedback on the proposed Citywide Density Bonus Program.  The Citywide Density Bonus Program is a possible new program that would allow for some types of properties in neighborhoods across the city to develop with modified standards when they provide income-restricted affordable housing in return. This project has been initiated by Council and also proposes to replace some existing programs going forward\, such as Density Bonus 90 (DB90) and Vertical Mixed Use (VMU). \nCommunity members can review the draft proposal for the project and provide feedback throughout the process.  City Council is expected to consider the proposal in May. For more information and to subscribe for updates on the Citywide Density Bonus Program\, visit SpeakUpAustin.org/CitywideDB.

SUMMARY:Virtual - Kennel Dig Guard Stakeholder Engagement
DESCRIPTION:On August 28\, 2025\, the Austin City Council passed Resolution 20250828-096. This resolution aims to improve the safety and welfare of animals at dog boarding facilities. \nAustin Development Services invites community members to share their feedback and discuss potential updates to the City Code for dog boarding facilities. The updates currently proposed would require safety features\, such as dig guards\, in new boarding facilities to help prevent dogs from escaping safe enclosures. The goal is to keep dogs safe\, protect the public\, and support responsible pet care. Your feedback will be considered in crafting our recommendations to Council. \nRSVP here.

SUMMARY:Don Baylor Neighborhood Park Renaming And Historical Marker Unveiling
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a Renaming Ceremony and Historical Marker Unveiling for Don Baylor Neighborhood Park! \nLast year\, my team and I led the city council in adopting an ordinance renaming Westenfield Neighborhood Park after the late Don Baylor\, a Clarksville native who overcame segregation to become a baseball legend. Join us for a ceremonial unveiling of the park’s new historical marker! A reception at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church will follow. \n\nDon Baylor (1949–2017) grew up in Clarksville\, a historic Texas Freedom Community near this park. Despite segregation preventing him from playing in the park as a child\, Baylor broke barriers throughout his life. He was among the first Black students to integrate O. Henry Middle School and later attended Austin High School. Drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 1967\, Baylor became one of the first African American players signed directly out of high school in Texas. His Major League Baseball career spanned 19 seasons\, earning him the American League’s Most Valuable Player award in 1979 and a World Series championship in 1987. Baylor later managed the Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs\, earning Manager of the Year honors in 1995. \nBeyond the field\, Baylor was a tireless advocate for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and a lifelong member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church. His induction into multiple sports halls of fame and burial at the Texas State Cemetery reflect his enduring impact on Texas and the nation. \nFunding for the interpretive marker came from District 10\, Austin Parks Foundation\, and the Baylor family.
