SUMMARY:Cancelled: BRAVE Communities Connection - Misinformation and Anti-Immigration
DESCRIPTION:Please note – this event has been cancelled. Follow BRAVE Communities on Facebook for any additional updates.  \nHow to avoid mis- and dis- information and build a more compassionate\, inclusive\, and welcoming community. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“If we learn nothing else from this tragedy\, we learn that life is short and there is no time for hate.” ~ Sandy Dahl\, wife of Flight 93 pilot Jason Dahl\, in Shanksville\, Pennsylvania \nJoin us for a meaningful BRAVE Communities Connection on Sunday\, September 8th\, 2-4pm. This special event will feature a moving musical performance by Bidita Majumdar\, a Senior at Westwood High School\, followed by a deeply engaging panel discussion that resonates with the challenges immigrants are experiencing from xenophobia and changing policies. \nOur panelists will share more about changing policies and how prejudice and bullying continue to affect immigrant communities. This conversation will be particularly relevant for young people as we examine how to fight these injustices with empathy\, understanding\, and action. \nIn light of recent anti-immigrant attacks in the UK and the 23rd anniversary of 9/11\, the panel will also delve into the dangerous effects of mis- and disinformation. With the constant barrage of social and political ‘noise’ in today’s world\, it’s vital that we learn how to protect our mental health and be sure we are listening to facts. \nThis event is not just a reflection on the past but a call to action for the future. We invite the community\, especially young people\, to join us in this important dialogue. Together\, we can build a more compassionate and resilient society. \nThank you to Homeslice Pizza – authentic NY style pizzas for providing us with pizzas at this event\, We All Belong\, and YSA for helping to #MakeATXBRAVE. \n————————————————————————————————————————————————————— \nOur BRAVE Young Leaders\, a cohort of 14-24 years old agents of change\, are leading their peers to participate in the “September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance (9/11 Day)” and preparing gratitude cards and gift baskets to their local EMS and fire stations. By serving in their community helps transform 9/11 into a day of unity\, empathy\, and service\, and extends the spirit of togetherness and compassion. Please consider donating any amount to help us provide gift baskets to our local EMS and fire stations that we will deliver on September 11th.
