SUMMARY:Fix-It Clinic: Carver Branch Library
DESCRIPTION:Attend the Fix-It Clinic where skilled volunteers will teach you how to fix your broken household items. RSVP for a time slot here. \n\n\n\nGot a broken item like a torn shirt\, faulty blender or worn-out toy? Bring them to a Fix-It Clinic and learn hands-on repair skills with help from our expert volunteers—free of charge! \nPlease note: We do not work on computers\, cell phones\, or tablets at the Fix-It Clinic. These projects often require extensive troubleshooting and take up a lot of our volunteers’ time. Instead\, we encourage you to subscribe to the Fix-It Austin newsletter to receive announcements of upcoming workshops focused on electronics repair\, consult the Austin Reuse Directory to find a professional repair shop\, and/or look for a repair guide on the IFixIt website. \nHow it works: Bring up to two items (excluding computers\, cellphones\, and tablets) and work with our coaches to learn how to fix them. Tools will be provided\, but feel free to bring your own. If you know your item needs a replacement part\, please bring it with you. While we can’t guarantee every item will be repaired\, you’ll learn how it works and what you may need to fix it. Note that our electronics/miscellaneous category is the most popular and sometimes there is a wait to work with a volunteer. \nDrop-off option: Can’t attend in person? Drop off your item at the Carver Library Branch (1161 Angelina St)\, April 24-30. We’ll try to fix it\, and you can pick it up May 4-9. Items not claimed by May 9 will be donated. Space is limited\, and a waiver is required.

SUMMARY:Kicking the Bucket Listening Club
DESCRIPTION:It’s not about dying. It’s about living. \nIn an emergency\, who do you want making medical decisions for you? Your people… or the state? The Kicking the Bucket Listening Club is a free 8-week community gathering designed to make conversations about death less taboo and empower you to make your own choices. You’ll leave knowing where the end-of-life conversation has to start. \nA BOOK CLUB FOR YOUR EARS\nKicking the Bucket is a darkly funny audio dramedy about two ride-or-die octogenarians determined to exit life on their own terms. Each week\, we listen to one episode of the ongoing story together. No prep required. \nCRAFT WHILE YOU CONVERSE\nWant to keep your hands busy while you listen? Learn a simple basket-weaving technique from Melissa Knight of Batik by Design. Materials provided. Arrive early for extra guidance. \nDIGGING DEEP\nDiscussion facilitated by Occupational Therapists and end-of-life practitioners Michelle McCarty and Melissa Saffron of Reinventing Independence. Expect thoughtful conversation\, practical tools\, and follow-up resources each week. \n📅 Mondays thru May 18 | 6–7:30pm\n📍 Hampton Branch\, Austin Public Library | 5125 Convict Hill Rd\, Austin TX 78749\n🎟️ Free!
