SUMMARY:Educators For Justice March
DESCRIPTION:As educators\, we promise to nurture and protect our students. This sacred promise proves impossible to uphold when our Black students and their parents come under fire unjustly and without consequence time and again. It has never been more important for educators to speak up and defend the rights of their students to exist\, grow and flourish in America. \nWe will hold a peaceful rally to demonstrate the unity and commitment of educators to bring about conditions in our society that allow our Black students and their families to exist and thrive. \nThis is not a rally in favor of any particular educational system\, curriculum\, etc. This is the harmonizing of the voices of countless educators committed to safeguarding Black students’ right to live and learn in a just and bountiful country. \nWe encourage all of our participants to come prepared with face masks and practice social distancing whenever possible to follow COVID-19 guidelines. We also encourage participants to bring comfortable walking shoes\, wear sunscreen\, and bring signs with any message they would like to share. \nNote: No donation is required to register. Any donations not used on supplies for the event will be donated to UNCF: United Negro College Fund.  \n

SUMMARY:Phonebank to #DefundAPD
DESCRIPTION:We’re coming into the home stretch! We are now at the point where there are amendments on the table before city council which would\, if passed actually remove $100 MILLION dollars from APD to spend on essential services and alternative first response. Something that would have been flatly impossible a few years ago is now just a few votes from being a reality\, but we have to work as hard as possible to make sure we get those votes! \nAustin DSA will be calling progressive voters in the districts of the swing council members to make sure they tell their council members to move forward on truly transformative reforms! We’re using an auto-dialer\, which makes the calls faster and more effective the more people who are doing it at once\, which means you should BRING A FRIEND (or comrade). We’ll be training folks to speak on the specific amendments\, and then working through our entire list!

SUMMARY:Austin DSA September Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Agenda to come! \nEvery month\, Austin DSA has a meeting open to members and prospective members. DSA is fighting to build a world where the working class are in charge. Our socialist vision is that if the working class can get political organized\, every single person will have high quality healthcare\, housing\, and good union job. And\, only the project of building socialism can stop climate change. \nOur monthly meetings are a great way to keep up with and plug into the work of our chapter. We’re currently working on a chapter-wide campaign to Defund the Austin Police Department. We’re out at protests and we are organizing to build as much pressure as possible on City Council to defund the police to the tune of $100 Million — or more — and put that money into the social services\, jobs\, and housing that we need to thrive. \nStay tuned for a full agenda\, and make sure to RSVP in order to get the Zoom Link!
