DESCRIPTION:City Council will hold special called meetings to discuss CodeNEXT\, Austin’s initiative to rewrite its Land Development Code\, during May and June in Council Chambers at Austin City Hall\, 301 W. Second St.\n \n\n\n\nCodeNEXT is the City of Austin initative to modernize Austin’s outdated Land Development Code with a simpler\, user-friendly code that creates and preserves people-friendly places. The Land Development Code sets requirements for what\, where\, and how much can be built in Austin.Meetings will be held each Wednesday on the following dates: \n\n\nMay 31\, 1-3 p.m.\nJune 7\, 1-3 p.m.\nJune 14\, 1-3 p.m.\nJune 21\, 1-3 p.m.\n\nThe new code seeks to provide solutions for major issues\, such as: inefficient processes and procedures\, affordable housing challenges and regulations that increase car dependency; while carrying forward parts of the old code that work\, such as: standards that maintain neighborhood character as well as nationally recognized environmental protections.\n \n\n\nFor more information on CodeNEXT\, visit http://austintexas.gov/codenext.\n\nAbout CodeNEXT\nCodeNEXT is the city’s effort to rewrite its land development code\, which is basically a rule book for the city\, explaining what can be built where. CodeNEXT will determine how Austin looks 10\, 15\, and even 50 years from now. And it will affect everything from affordability\, to transportation\, to the environment. In other words\, it’s a really big deal.
