The tamal, or tamales as we also call them in Texas, are a staple during the holiday season in Mexico. They are labor-intense and that’s why we’re making them the traditional way—together as a group! The seasonal vegetables and meat used to stuff the tamales will be purchased from vendors at the SFC Farmers’ Markets. Each participant will take home a bag of tamales to share.
While the tamales are cooking, we’ll snack on some traditional Mexican treats and atole con fruta (warm corn-based drink with fruit).
The entire class will be active, so please dress appropriately for the kitchen (closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothes, hair tie for long hair). We will sample what we cook, but it will not be a complete meal.
